LITIGATION MANAGEMENT, INC. FOUNDER & PRESIDENT RECEIVES “WOMEN OF NOTE” DISTINCTION FROM CRAIN’S CLEVELAND BUSINESS
CLEVELAND (June 3, 2008) – Litigation Management, Inc. (LMI) founder and president Elizabeth B. Juliano has been named one of this year’s 12 “Women of Note” by Crain’s Cleveland Business. The publication recognizes the region’s leading women who enrich the business community with a unique perspective and make up an influential (and growing) demographic of decision makers and influencers.
In selecting this year’s “Women of Note,” the publication looked to perseverance, character and accomplishments—three categories which have been tightly woven into the fabric and history of Litigation Management, Inc. by Juliano.
Founding the company in 1984, Juliano created an entirely new “service” category in the legal industry. “There was a need for a specialized medical records management function,” she says. Juliano, in the early ‘80s, was working as a paralegal for several attorneys defending asbestos litigation cases. “I found that focusing on managing the medical aspects of the litigation allowed the attorneys to focus their time on legal strategy,” she adds.
With a $10,000 loan from a family member, Juliano launched Litigation Management, Inc.—a move she says many of her peers questioned. Working alone she provided medical summaries for clients in Cleveland and eventually across the country. “My big break came when I won the bid to manage all of the medical records affiliated with the thousands of cases across the country against Dow Corning and the company’s silicone breast implants,” she says.
Today, Juliano (and LMI) dominate the category she created and serve as one of Northeast Ohio’s leading entrepreneurs and employers. The LMI team numbers 600 in Cleveland and across the country—all working to acquire, review, analyze, and summarize thousands of pages of medical records each year and provide defense counsel with medical summaries and analyses using the company’s proprietary Web technology.
A collaborator too, Juliano sees the relationships with her staff, clients and peer groups as key to ongoing success. She, herself, has worked every position within the company to not only understand every operational aspect, but to understand each employee’s specific role, responsibilities and challenges, and how these roles impact the clients’ needs.
“It’s an entrepreneurial spirit that you can feel throughout the company,” says Sonya Virant, chief operating officer, LMI. “Everyone in the company has an eye for how their role translates into service to our clients.”
In addition to Crain’s “Women of Note,” Juliano was recently named Northeast Ohio Entrepreneur of the Year by Ernst & Young in Cleveland.
The publication will honor this year’s “Women of Note” class, Wednesday, June 4, at a luncheon at the LaCentre Conference & Banquet Center, 25777 Detroit Road, Westlake.

FOUNDER AND
PRESIDENT OF LITIGATION MANAGEMENT, INC. NAMED 2007
ERNST & YOUNG
ENTREPRENEUR OF THE YEAR
CLEVELAND (July 9, 2007) – At an awards banquet held at the Renaissance
Hotel, downtown Cleveland, Tuesday, June 26, 2007, Ernst & Young named Elizabeth B. Juliano, founder and
president of Litigation Management, Inc. (LMI), this year’s Northeast Ohio Entrepreneur of the Year.
The program, founded in 1986, honors entrepreneurs whose ingenuity, hard work and perseverance have created
and sustained successful business ventures.
LMI is the industry leader in the acquisition, analyses and
assimilation of medical records in large-scale litigation—even working on some of the country’s
most publicized cases in history involving toxic tort, product liability and premises
liability actions.
Juliano founded the company with knowledge gained while working as a paralegal preparing
medical record summaries for Cleveland attorneys defending asbestos litigation cases. “There was an
immediate need for medical records management,” she says, “particularly with the growing number
of product liability and mass tort cases and record reviews being critical.” In March 1984, Juliano
launched Litigation Management, Inc. to the legal community in Northeast Ohio.
Today, the
founder and her firm are recognized names across the country—Juliano, the category creator of
‘medical information management’ in litigation and LMI, the first specialty litigation support
team and technology. Over the past 23 years, the LMI team has acquired, reviewed, analyzed, and summarized
millions of pages of medical records and provided defense counsel around the country with
summaries and analyses that have contributed to the successful resolution of cases.
This year, the
company’s employees number more than 400 in Cleveland alone. Nationwide, Juliano counts upwards of 700
staff members, which is likely to grow to 1,000 within the next few years.
Behind the success
and Juliano’s award Tuesday evening, she says, is the entire team at LMI. “Our employees are
entrepreneurs in spirit.” “They may not have started the company, but still share in the
original vision of LMI and work to provide high quality service and product 24/7,” says Juliano.
She, herself, has worked every position within the company to not only understand every
operational aspect, from top to bottom, but to understand each employee’s position, including specific
roles, responsibilities and challenges—another reason behind the accolade from Cleveland’s Ernst
& Young.
Entrepreneur of the Year award recipients are determined based not only on
entrepreneurial spirit, but also the financial performance of their company, strategic growth, community
and global impact, innovation and personal integrity and influence.
The Ernst & Young
Entrepreneur of the Year Awards were established in 1986 to recognize and motivate individuals demonstrating
the highest levels of entrepreneurial endeavor. The program honors entrepreneurs who have established
themselves as leaders and whose determination has created and sustained successful growth businesses.
Juliano and LMI will add The Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award to the company’s
list of acknowledgements locally and regionally. In 2006, Juliano was in the class of Rainmakers, an award
sponsored by Northern Ohio Live magazine, and in 1997 named a “Top 10 Business Owner” according
to the National Association of Women Business Owners. In that same year, she received the “Woman
of Influence” from Crain’s Cleveland Business. In 1995, The National
Association of Women Business Owners sponsored the nomination of Juliano for the Northeast Ohio Entrepreneur
of the Year Award.
